Getting in Touch

horizontal rule

I don't know about you, but I often feel like I'm in a rut, not going anywhere, and in need of getting in touch with the Powers That Be.  Sometimes it can be so overwhelming! And where to begin!  I've come across various methods in my study that might be of some assistance to you, as they have been to me.  The idea is to take it slowly and work from there.  Remember, Rome wasn't built in a day!

The first thing I'd like to discuss is getting in tune with the Elements.  Sure, we all know what the elements are:  Air, Fire, Water, Earth. (I will not discuss Spirit at this time)    We know their corresponding compass points, we know what they signify, but how do we become one with them?

I came across a great idea in a book I recently read: "Book Of Shadows", by Phyllis Curott.  This book is a true story of Phyllis' spiritual journey and  discusses how she came in tune with the elements.  After reading that particular section of her book, I found myself brimming with new ideas on becoming one with the elements.  I'm sure you'll discover many more for yourself! The idea is to immerse yourself in each element for one moon cycle.   After this time, you'll see for yourself how much more in tune you are with that element.  Let us begin!

Begin each day with the following chant:

Air I am,

Fire I am,

Water, Earth, and

Spirit, I am!

Outdoor Sacred Circle

Another method I came up with is creating an area out of doors which can be used for magick, meditation, or simply rest & relaxation.  The nice thing about it is that no one would ever guess what it is actually used for!  Nice for those of us in the closet.  I defined an area approximately 30 feet in diameter and found the four compass points.  Due East was a large oak tree.  There I hung a set of wind chimes.  Due South was a tree stump.   On it, I keep a citronella candle.  Due South was in the middle of my perennial garden.  Hmmm....what could I come up with here??  A bird bath!!   Due North was a medium-sized tree.  Perfect for Earth!  In the middle of the circle are two trees, beneath which I hung a hammock.  Now I can lie in the hammock, listen to the chimes, along with the birds and other critters making their music.   I can smell the clean air ripe with the perfumes from my gardens of flowers and herbs.  I can feel the sun shining down on me. And Spirit is present:  in the air, the sky, the garden, the critters, and...in me!!   This is my own little Garden of the Goddess, and what more can a witch ask for????
